Adding Google Analytics to your site.
Google analytics is a very useful tracking tool that will give you traffic information about your site, including the number of people who view your site, how long they view it for, how they got to your site, where your visitors are from, and a lot more.
First you will need to sign up for google analytics. The easiest way to get to it is to search for 'google analytics' in google's search. If you like direct urls, just go to www.google.com/analytics.
Towards the top right of the page there will be a blue button that reads 'access analytics'. Just below this button there will be a link 'Sign Up Now'. Click the 'sign up now' link.
The forms will walk you through from here. Just enter the information these forms ask for. Eventually you will come to a page with a box of markup. There will be instructions to post this in every page you wish to track. Copy and paste this code into all of the pages on your site between the head and body sections of your markup.
A module may help to paste this code quickly. If you create a .inc file and paste the code into this new file, you just need to add a line to include the markup from the file instead of a whole paragraph of gibberish. I recommend this approach.
That's it! Wait a few hours or a day or two and go back to google's analytical report to get tons of information about who's hitting your page, where they're from, how they get to your page, what browsers they are running, and lots more.
